Weekend From Beyond… Child Not Sleeping!!!

Our youngest son (who is seven) is having sleep issues… which intern means the Mommy and Daddy are having sleep issues! This weekend he was up for 21 hours straight, slept for 5 hours and was up for 17 hours which lead into this morning at 3:00 a.m.! Lord, knows we love this kid… but we are running out of… patience! He is not one that will quietly play with a toy for a bit and then go back to sleep. We have a snack at bedside… in case he needs it… or water… night light in the bathroom in case duty calls so he don’t have to turn on the big over head light and wake up the rest of the household. We don’t allow anything stimulating during these sleep hours for him… t.v., video games, or anything that we know stimulates him. Our Pediatrician would like a sleep study done at a local hospital but that would require him to sleep! So for now, we are documenting his sleep patterns, eating habits, activities throughout his day, and anything else that might be helpful to solve this problem.

Being the at home person, I feel it only right that I be the one that gets up… although my wife lets me sleep when she can…

Hopefully, this phase, or whatever he is going through won’t last long! Till we find out if it is a medical thing or psychological issue, this Daddy is investing in toothpicks for my eyelids and napping when I can!! This issue is to be continued…
